Stereotypes - Mean Girls.
In this section I have researched stereotypes, using mean girls as my case study as they very clearly represent each group, in a exaggerated way but it gives a clear indiciation of the typical looks assosiated with them. The most famous scene is the cafeteria scene which introdues us all to these stereotypical groups.
How they are portrayed in films:
* They tend to like fashion keeping up with the trends and tend to be alot stricker on the what they can and cannot wear.
* Look beautiful .
* Normally blondes.
* In films they normally have a bad personalitly/sneaky/jealous
* Groomed to perfection.
* Never have bad skin

Concept 2.
What is a Stereotype?
A stereotype is a way we group individuals together based on their appearnce, activites and general perosnalilty. Thus when we look at someone with balck hair and clothes we identify them as Goth's.
Examples of sterotypes: Emo's, Nerds, The Populars (or Plastics as they are reffered to as in mean girls), Band geeks, The different races, Cheerleaders and Jocks.
The Populars.

Changing stereotypes.
In the film Cady Heron (Linsey Lohan) starts off as a 'normal' teenager but is soon turned into a plastic (popular) below I have compared the two looks and how my opinion of her changes due to her looks and behavour. Does her identity shift with her change in apperance?
Image 18.8 - Cady at the start when she is 'normal'
Image 18.9 - Cady once she is a plastic
When you are first introduced to Cady she is very normal in looks. Very minimal makeup, casual hair and no sexy clothing. When we see her like this we expect her personality to be quiet placid and easy going, which is accurate to her at the beginning of the film.
When she invades the plastics she starts to wear tighter more sexualised clothes, her hair is very groomed and done at all times and her make-up is alot heavier and surgestive. This makes up expect her to be rude, not very nice and very self centred, which as she develops more into the plastic she becomes. She is becomes who we identify her as depends on how she looks. This is a clear indication of how important of a role looks play in our own identity.
