Wire Weft Work.

What is it?

This is a round hair piece that is usually made to sit on the crown of the head and occaionally just above the nape. They are around fist size and can be either knotted or weft. Here I am looking at the weft method.

Honeycomb Mesh - This is the most commonly used mesh for chingon.

Diamond Mesh - This isn't widely used at the honeycomb mesh however it does have the uses. I.e. if you had to add length to a persons hair. This is where the mesh is diamond in shape and usually made in rectangle pieces.

Creating the template.

This is the same as when you make a beard/moustache, layering cellotape over the clingfilm drawing the desired shape for the piece. It is reccommended to use a cup or circular object for this as freehand drawing a ciricle isn't easy and you need to have a perfect shape so that you creating a good standard piece. Then you need to draw your mesh patteren into the circle. However if you need to create a diamond mesh then you need to use a rectangle shape template.

Types of mesh.

Here is and example of the circle chingon template with a honeycomb mesh, it has been made to fit at the crown of the head made with the weaving method.

Template Analysis.

This is a honeycomb mesh chingon. I found that designing the template was easy and straight forward however geting the pins through the tiny width of the cotton to measure out the pattern was a long and stressful process. If i was to do this again I would choose to use a stiffer/thicker thread so that I can be fast making me more time efficient.

Weaving Analysis.

Here I have made a section of flat weft piece that would then be sewn together in the pattern of the template to create the chingon. As you can see in the middle my width of the hair goes thinner meaning I started to pick up smaller sections of the hair but once noticed I corrected my mistake but I need to improve on my consistancy in this area. For my first long weft piece I am happy with the tightness and pretty much even coverage along the width.

Making it into a Chingon-

This would then be sewn in the shape of the template made earlier.
