Afro Carribean.
Trends.
Alot of trends we see for afro carrribean makeup comes from influenctional people such as the women on the
Real Housewives, but it also is drawn from the trends and cultures surrounding bollywood. They both have similarities that we then will seem tone downs and bought into these looks.
Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Here I am looking at a selection of before and after photos of the women in the show and looking for commons trends between the different looks and thetechniques the makeup artists have used.
Tips.

Create a custom foundation by using multiple shades for the suitable areas of the skin

Leave the foundation for a mintue to allow the product to oxidise before judging if the shade is correct

Use a slightly lighter conealer mixed with a yellow one for a brightening effect

Dont use pastle or wishy washy colours as they tend to look funny and out of place on darker skin tones

Brighter colours on the eyes compliment darker skin tones

Be carefull when choosing texture frost of metallic finishes are reccommended to stay away from because of the pigment

Product Selection.
When choosing products for darker skin tones it is important to consider their texture, where you will be placing it, the amount of product your using, their undertones and how they will look. Bigger frosted pigments can look quiet bitty and uneven on darker skin tone which isn't very complimenarty on the skin tone try a shimmer finsih instead. As we have learnt in our first units you want to pick up their undertones and what will compliment them and to do so sometimes for darker skin tones I refer back to the colour wheel as I haven't have much experiance working with these skin tones so I like to confirm all my choices with all other techniques I have already learnt. Nudes for lips can be very hard to find a good tone that suits the skin tone, using the natural tones of the lips will give you an indication of weather to go for a pinky verison or more golden.

Techniques and changes- Cynthia Bailey.
Contouring- very soft and natural looks but you can see alot of work has gone into it, the nose is alot more slimmer and symmetrical, the face has been slimmed down and changed to be more oval.
Brows- These are extented filled in to be more defined on the face
Lips - The shape hasn't been altered much but th eoclour is a bolder statment than the lips but still very natural and soft looking
Hair has been given the glamour hollywood look, big curls and volumous, a marylin monroe feel to it.
Complextion - very smooth and is alot lighter then her natural tone with more yellow undertones
Techniques and changes -Porsha Stewart.
Complextion - as seen above is alot yellower tehn her natural tone and has a smooth illuminating finsih.
Brows- Very defined and strong
Eyes - The shadow has a very harsh edges and follows th eshap of the brow, veyr dark colours used making them the focus of the face
Lips- Once again natural colours have been used but not in a bold way this time, but a more sharper lip line used and more depth of colour and shine
Contouring - Stil visiable but not as strong as previously seen
Blush - there is colour on the cheeks but it is placed on the bottom part of the cheek bone and not bought far forwards keeping inline with the contouring
Techniques and changes - Kandi Burrus.
Complextion - This is the most true to her tone complextion I have seen the most natural look still with a glow.
Eyes - The Shadow is alot softer in colour than Porsha's but there is still a definate edges following the3 brow shape.lashes are defined but long, this is the heaviest liner we have seen
Contouring - this seems to not be heavy, the face and nose shape seem very unalter or very minimally if anything at all
Lips - Once again very natural and nude with some shine, the lip line is very defined but not harsh looking
Blusher - There once again is little to no colour just a hint on the cheekbone focus is on the eyes.

Bollywood Cultural influence.
Another source of influence come from bollywood which in th epast 10 years has become more popular in the western culture however more toned down. Key points of a bollywood looks is:

Defined jet black big winger liner

Strong bold eyeshadow for a dramatic eye use unusal colours such as bright canary yellow, bright lime greens and deeper jade greens (use the shadows to chnage you eye shape bu placing lighter colour in different places)

Lips are painted with a bright red or coral and the layered with a high shine product

Dewy healthy looking skin

Hair is straight smooth long and shiny
-
They tend to wear foudnations lighter than their skin tone as they desire to look fairer but always flawless finsih
Mickey Contractor is a bollywood makeup artist and his view on the bollywood trends are:
“Bollywood is all about eyes, I think India is all about eyes, because we draw a lot from our tradition, we draw a lot from our culture — for generations it’s always been about eyes." (Arpita, 2014)

Comparison.
As you can see th ebollywood culture is more vibrant and impacting as you look at it however you can see the trends that run through to the Real Housewives and then through to celebs. Flawless glowing skin is one of the most obvious trends with mimnal cheek colour. The eyes still have similar shadow shapes and colour but more dilueted when they come into the western world, as seen in Kandi's image. From this I can see how these different cultures influence afro-carribean make upand how it has diluted through the western culutre to suit what they see beauty as but there are points that link directly.
