Flat piece Development.

Silicone.

Bondo.

Sculpting & Molding.

Forhead Flat Piece.

Sculpting and Molding.

Mole Flat piece.

Attempt 1.

This issue I had with this was that the cap plastic and IPA miz layers were way too thick, due to me not making the solution thiin enough to start with so once 3 layers were on to start with then one to seal it it has lost the thin blendable edge. however from a far (i.e. the image above) some of the edges do blend in more when coloured.

For colouring thispiece I used supra colour paints which i found looked cakey and sat in the edges enhanceing them to th eye . The thick layerd look would suit the painting texture I am trying to create however I feel I need to work more with it on its own to see how well it works. I also found it slipped around when applying to the silicone pieces if using strokes but when patting it one it stayed on better but was alot thicker.

Attempt 2 - homemade bondo.

I found this was very hard to directly transfer out of the mold, the bigger mole came out quiet easy whereas the smaller one didnt come out at all, maybe because of how small it is that it is just drying out alot faster than the bigger one, making it harder to remove- maybe I should fill the larger one first then once it is half dry fill th esmaller one?

I do like the seamless edges as it blends into the skin. I also need to try different products for colouring once I have got a nice full application as this is my main concern.

Attempt 1 - homemade bondo.

This mixed had been left to air dry over the weekend before application  so this may be due to it over drying. Next time I will only leave it for half a day to a day (until it goes clear) and see if it come out of the mold.

I also could try applying a touch of prosaide to help it if it had dried out too much. however this goes against the idea that it is made of glue for quick and easy application.

Attempt 3 - bought.

This worked much better than my previous attempts however once again the small dot didn't come out, even though this is alot cheaper method than silcione and is very fast to apply which would give me time to focus on my other pieces it is not working very well so I will use an alternate method for creating my moles.

This was very quick to sculpt as I didn't want to have any texture as it was so small adding skin pores may make it look like it has air bubbles in it when making the pieces.

The hardest part was getting them both a smooth circlular round the edges so when you looked at them from above they looked like moles and not spots. So I found having one larger and smaller the porportions worked well with the eye so it didnt represent spots.

Looking at my grounding the inside edge/wall needed to be alot smoother and sharper for a better mold to be made, I will note this for when I am doing my close mold as it will be directly impact how well my prosthetic piece will be.

This is being used to block out the brows and to make a smooth area over so I can then apply other brows over the top as you can see from my designs the brows are a disnctive shape and very small and my model has very large brows. I have tried to keep the height to a minimal depth as I want it to blend to the natural skin nicely rather than it being massivly obvious. I have put the detail grooves into the clay as I have tried it with just make-up and i think this will help to make the shadows have more depth allowing me to build up the layers of colour to make it represent the painting.

My grounding was better this time however I want to try and stop making the clay sit with a a unsmooth curve following the sculpting edge, however hand making apose to using an extruder I will never get it as good. So I may have to look at investing in one to help improve this technique.

Gelatin.

Attempt 1.

This didnt work as you can see on the image to thr right it has pooled leaving big gaps and not holding the shape of the piece- this may be down to the vasline on the mold. I will try this process without prepping the mold with vasline to see what happens.

Silicone.

Attempt 2.

This worked alot better and the edges were quiet thin, they could have been a little thinner on the bottom half. As you can see from them being coloured the edges were okay o nthe top half but they were not bleeding away on th ebotom so in the end I had to cut them which is a big DO NOT, so again I am struggling with the edges of the gelatin.

I have not blocked out the ebrows before applying this piece and it has done a better job at concealing the brows than I thought it would as it is very translucent but the skin colour seems to bounce off the gelatin when on the skin. However I have found when I have coloured it the brows area does seem a slightly different colour as seen in the two images below, the tone looks more blocky around this aeras so I had to build up the colour around it which took more time.

I am finding that the gelatin over all isnt picking up the small detail in between the brows as well as the silicone is. I find air bubbles are quiet easy to trap under the gelatin when sticking it to the skin which are obvious when looking at it. Over all I do not like this material fo rmy portait context.

Attempt 2.

This is the piece I used for my formative assesement my evaluation on application and colouring is on the formative tab. The edges worked really well, in the mold they felt lik ethey could ahve been too thick but they actiall were lovely and thin. I had learnt from my pratcial time in class the application technique of cross hatching my layers for strength and thinnes which has seemed to work really well. However it looks very pale so next time I could go darker with my pigment as my model's skin tone is very tanned.

Attempt 1.

I struggled with applying this piece becasue emma's face was alot smaller than my models but I wanted to get used to layering it over the silcione nose. The right side of the forehead piece bleed away really well th edges look almost invisable which is what I am aiming for. However on the left side they didn't blend out well this may be due to the silicone not ending until ahlf way down her eye (as it was made for a bigger forehead) but there are parts where it has bleed out well but equally there are some nasty edges.

Colouring worked well I bult up th eundertones of the skin with illustator then used a cream colour over the top to get a very thick painted look. This works well and I think would work well with the layers built up on top, as Seen on the image top right but I think I could go even heavier with the paints to really make th ehighlights and shadows stand out they are very sublte here which doesn't reflect my portait accuratley.

One thing I need to change is the placement around the eye I need to stick this down before pushing the rest of th edges onto/around the eye. This time I worked outside in which didn't work well for me.
