Designs.

Long, thin structured nose, centre has a slight bump with definition either side

Eyes lids are heavy and look buldgey with smaller bags under the eye (2 parts to them)

Brows finish just past the centre of the eye, very hairy looking shaped upwards

Short and groomed beard and moustache lighter blonde/brown around the mouth and darker brown along the jawline framing the face

Very thin strands of grey running in the sides of the hair

Hair has a limp wavy texture - strands are around 1-1 1/2 inches on top and 2 inches round the sides

The highlights and shadows are very places and persice can almost see where they end and the skin tone begins

Very small lumps on his cheeks are very sublte but distinct shapes

Frown lines around the brows and top of the nose very distinct pattern (same as in other portriats looked at)

Key Features.

Background you can see brush strokes and this builds up the texture to the piece - colours are placed to enpasize the sitter. darker shades promate the focus to be on the sitter rather than the background and sitter  jointly.

Dress seems to be quiet darkly painted aswell with few highlighted patches so upclose you can define that it is metal (suit of armour?) Also a key on a chain around his neck

Design Process.

This is my orignal photo with no editing. I have tried to get the angle of his face and eyes as close to the protrait as possible so i can work out by layering them using photoshop and changing there opacity  to see the different parts and how that will affect my design.

Portrait image at 40% opacity layered over models image.

- The nose needs to be flatter and thinner at the tip.

- You can see a rough outline as to wear the beard/moustache and brows sit against his jawline.

- The hair need to flop foward more along his forhead with few longer pieces down the side

- This gives me exactally where the painted shadows around the eye need to sit and the bumps on his cheek

Portrait image at 53% layered over models image.

- The shaddows and highlights are more definate

- From this image i can seet I need another photo to get him to move his chin more to his right so the lips and nose line up better to see exactaly what needs changing and the best technique for this.

Portrait image at 66% opacity layered over models image.

- This gives me a clear indication of how much of the brows I need to blank out (prosthetic piece/blocking brows technique from 1st year?)

- It is more clear at how I need to chang ethe angle of the head however overall the shape and feature fit well

- Flat piece for the bumps on the face or paint them in?

Portrait image at 73% opacity layered over models image.

- The frown detail around the brows is more heavier - worth making a prosthetic piece?

- Very strong /square line to the nose

Portrait image 82% opacity layered over model image.

- This is a good cross of how i expect my final piece to look like as it a cross of his face and my portraits it shows me what I want to aim for realisticly.

- Colouring is alot clearer than previously and the build up from the shadows at opacity 40% to the pink tones in the cheeks (I could use these as refrences of how to build up the colour with makeup?)

Inital Design specifics.

Pieces I will need  to make:

Brows

Moustache

Beard

Techniques I could use:

Laying on the hair

Knotting

Stippling colour

Punching hair into silicone

For my intial idea I have draw the pattern the template needs to be fore each piece of postiche. On the facial postoche page for this task I have looked into and experimented with each one to find out what method is suitable for my portrait.

Idea for prosthetic pieces:

Forehead (to cover brows)

Moles

Nose

I could make:

Closed Molds

Flat pieces

Tubeplast (moles only)

Wax (sculpted straigh onto the face)

Materials I could use:

Gelatine

Silcione

Latex

Bondo

This are my inital thoughts on how they should sit, the order of forehead under nose, have individually tried out materials and methods to create these results in make up experimentation stage.

Products I could use:

cream based

Liquid based

Foundations

Supra colours (kryolan)

Aqua colour (kryolan)

Powders

Cake (kyolan)

Illustrator

Placement of the major shadows and highlights are seen on the design opposite, I will need to consider how I am going to apply them by hand, sponge, brush, etc.

The best way to find out what will work on not only the face but also the prosthetic pieces as I may use different types of materials to make them so I will need to experiement with them. I also plan to make swatches of the different types and layering over to see it the sit well together and don't become patchy of lift of the under layer.
