1830's Hair.
This was part of the Biedermeier Period which ran from 1820-1835, this was he key time leading up to the writing of the little mermaid and I am using the historical information to influence my characters.
This movement was to do with art and the aesthetics which focused on the middle class and was reflected in their fashion and hair.

Key points for evening hairstyles.
* Tall ornamented loops and braids on the top of the head
* Aftificial pieces were used to add the height for these styles

The key points of these hairstyles was influenced by the middle class wanting to display more of their wealth through their apperance. This lead to more ornamentation and decoration within hairstyles.

* Hair parted either in the centre of in a V shape
* Flat on the top of the head

Hats.
Bonnets were very fashionable so the hair was worn to fit under the bonnet. Beause of this some women wore the hair in a twist at the back so that it showed off their long necks and delicate shoulders.

As I am having an historical factor in my hair designs I felt it important to look at how I could achieve these looks. I am not going to go over the top with a full evening style however I may try and produce a look similar as it is important for me to explore the whole era before I have my design set in stone.
Key feature of male hair.
* It has got longer and fuller looking
* Side partings have become more fashionable especially in the 1830's
* Sideburns have been grown longer and styled with more curl
* Mustaches are still in fashion but not worn by everyone
You can see these key points demonstrated in the images below.

Inspiration - Place of the buns/folds of hair
Plaits - Is this a sign of class it is more decorative than other do's.
Flat central parting is seen alot in the era.
Very tall up do's with flat sections that look like piece of ribbons ontop of the head
Ringlets starting to hand loose around the sides of the head.
These aren't going to influence my look as they are starting to go too late into the 30's but as you can see the hair and become less ornate and more flat on the top. Ringlets and plaits are used more now.
Hair isn't perticually parted
Worn quiet long and shaggy looking
Hair has a natural looking wavy texture and isnt set in a fixed style
