Theatrical Editing.
Here I have played around with layer different parts of the makeup over each othewr to create different effects some are unsuitable for the context but I wanted to see what I could create using the skills I have learnt on photoshop and show alternate ways of presenting the images.
Image 1.
Here I played around with th elighting effects of the picture as seen below. It doesn't work for a theatre poster as it isn't dinamic or warm enough for the context. It takes away the shimmery and colour layers of Ariel's makeup.
Poster editing.
Image 2,3 & 4.
Here is the orginal image I have chosen to expriment with layering other images over this one as a background as I think the colour contrast and textures of the hair work really well and make it alot more intresting than a plain background however this is something I have played around with and on reflection I feel it is too arty and not a strong enough Image to work in the context it is for.
First I have changed the curves of the image to enhance the green/blue tones then I have layer over a photo of ariel changing the opacity and contrast so you can see them over the top. But this didn't work it isn't strong enough intensity and the compostion doesn't look right it looks put together.
Then I tried layering it through the hair shots of Ariel to see if this would have a greater impact than the other way round. I really like the composition of this and the mysterious feeling around the image linking to the ending of the text. However I'm not sure if it would work as the poster or programme cover so at the moment this is in the maybe section.
Text Experimentation.
As using the texture of the hair as the background was one of my favourite ideas I have now experimented with text and their positions. I like having the theatre and opening time on their however side by side they looked too clumpy and wide set the balance of the piece didn't work for me however sitting on top worked well for both the eye and the balance of the picture. I chose white to be the text colour as I played alot with the contrasting tones of the image to create a very striking blue to catch people's eye if they were to walk past it and the white looks like it belongs compared to black or the blue tones I tried. However on the white above it feels very much like it is sitting ontop rather than blending into the image so I have changed the contrast to pull both the image and text as one. As seen below.
I really like this however compared to the others I think the other duo pictire works better as part of the series Due to the text especially. I do really like how taking the intensity out of the words has such a big impact. Before doing this I had not appreciated how each element plays such a big role in creating posters. This photoshoping has allowed me not to only look at more than just the makeup, but how the focus isn't on how they look it is based on the feeling they produce. Below is my final edit however I will not be using it as part of my series.
I really like the vibrancy of this one which works really well with sebastians single poster. Here I am showing the effect of the chosen text theme before and after blending it into the image. I feel it really adds in bringing the two layers into one softening the focus of the text whilst still being eye catching. This is one of the final posters.
Above I have shown how different placing text can affect the whole image as I have spent along time finding the most suitable position for each image, The editing otherwise has been the same as the other discussed at the top. Over all I felt the best angle was off to the side as they are looking in one direction placing it under their eyeline or central made the image look one sided which made you wonder what was wrong with it when you looked at it. So away from the focus worked well, as a duo I think this image it really striking and I feel it has a warmth glow and feel of the tsage lighting bringing it suitably into the context it was meant to.
