Film Editing - Inital stages.

Here I have screen shotted my process during editing the images and annoted my thought on the editing process and if it does/doesn't work.

'Coming soon' Still for the end of trailer.

These are the two original photos that have been layer over each other - I have decided to create a more artist light image for this 'coming soon' as at the end of the story ariel becomes a air spirit so this is to reflect that. I have done it for both characters to see what works and weather it could be a series of images with the same effect that would be swapped for the different trailers.

Film stock is the basic filter I used for this effect. I like how it looks like water is shower over them yet it doesn't look heavy like a down pour actually looks it has a angleic feel to it. I have then played around with layering text over the top.

The first one I have applied it into the negative space of the image so that  it blends in rather than looking disjointed. I like this placement however I feel the text isnlt the right font and for a DVD cover this wouldn't work but for the 'coming soon' flash it is the right impact and orientation as seen in the second image. However the filter have made it very yellowy so I have adjusted the colour balance and opacity of the over layer to make it whited to fit in the water/air theme.

Image 1.

The image above is the edit diluting some of the yellow tones to create a more whiter wash effect. The box the the left shows the final edits of the photo to show what has been done to it. This is so much better and I am really happy with the outcome it has a light delicate feel but flashed up would be a good impact at the end of a trailer.

As you can see I need to add the text on but this will be decided one I have my collection of 'coming soon' flashes as I want it to be consitant and it needs to work on top of all the images.

Image 2.

Here is the second image of the collection, Ariel, and I am using the same photo as before to layer over so the effect is conistant over the collection. As this photo is generally slightly lighter I had to adjust the balance differently to the previous one which meant I had to do a lot of referencing so that they matched. As you can see I made it too light and had to go back and change opacity and curves.

Film poster edits.

Film poster edit 1.

The image on the left is the orginal then on the right the photoshope image as you can see for this one I alters the blue curves then added a filter called horroblue onto the image so that the sea became more intense and prominate. It has also lighten the sky making sebastian not feel so seperate from the background. Below shows the filter used and what layers have been added.

Film poster edit 2.

Here I have tried to make a more vibrant and happy shot to make it eye catching when you see it. I have also tried it into black and white so I can see how this impacts in both colour and not. As I want to only apply edits that make a difference rather than to change the makeup.

I really like the imapct of the black and white image however it doesn't work with the other film poster images, when a film is advertised there is a linking theme that is obvious running through the collection and I feel black and white images aren't setting the angelic vibe I want to create with these posters. This is to contrast the story line by the light bright tones represent ariel's personality and characteristic even though she goes through rough times her soul is what saves her and I feel the colour version reflects and convays this better.

Film poster potential collection images.

Here are other images I have edited in the same way changing the contrast/brightness and curves so they all work together as a collection for film poster. Once again the text placement, size and font will be determine once the images have been decided so that it works for all.

Overlapping images.

Here I have played around with my favourite edit to date of the 'ocean' effect overlapping th eisngle images I had blended the two together for a more quirky and contempoary feel in which gives you a hint of the characters.I have used the layering technique before but this is the best I have produced it took a very long time and I had to ask my sister to help show me this method but I am realy happy with it's outcome. The lettering with the images showing through is something I had learnt back in college and I thought it would be too much for this image ad take away from it as a whole but it suprised me and actially pulled it all together.

Below is a typical image through text piee of work, I just produced this to show the technique but ireally like the power of it and this it would be really eye catching and striking for a DVD cover because of it bold lettering and layout.

Here I have created the same effect on a duo image to see it's effect personally I think that it worked better on the single images rather than this because it is quiet a serious and dinamic look it doesn't have the same feel so I will not be using this in the series. Another reason is the text in different positions and colour doesn't feel as united with the image as the others so I feel it does not have th esame impact and mystery about it. If I was t choose a favourtie though it would be the first one as this is the most complete out of the three.

This is a really strong and impacting image which I think matches the strength of Liv's individual ones so would work with them as pater series. Below is a poster I really like it isn't as strong impacting as the one above however the text and light exposure really adds a layer of light and hope to the picture. I am not sure at the moment which one will complete the series as they both have good and bad qualities.
